This extra-large trap quickly rids your space of pesky flying insects, including mosquitoes, biting flies, Asian beetles, wasps, hornets, yellow jackets, moths, stink bugs, and more. Its fluorescent UV bulb emits a bright glow that attracts insects, while its titanium dioxide-coated surface acts as a second lure by producing irresistible carbon dioxide. Finally, its powerful vacuum fan quietly captures insects in the retaining cage where they die within 24 hours. |
Thanks to its ultra-quiet fan, this trap pulls insects into its screened base without zapping or buzzing. This makes it a great solution for removing flying insects at barbecues, parties, or evenings in the backyard. It is recommended that you place the unit at least 20 to 40 feet away from where people will be sitting. The trap plugs into a standard 110-volt outlet. |
This trap requires no attractant or propane to operate. For best results, let the unit run continuously during high insect season. To clean, twist and remove the retaining cage on the bottom and easily dispose of insects using the included brush. The damper closes automatically when turned off, preventing live insects from escaping during cleaning. |

Pros:
1. It is a live trap if you care about releasing some types of insects and disposing of others.
2. The light (when working) does attract insects. As others have stated, I think the carbon dioxide emission claim from the light is bogus, but the light in and of itself does attract insects.
3. The fan is strong and effective at sucking in the bugs that have been attracted to the light and does push them into the live catch basket below.
Cons:
1. This is expensive for what it is. It is a light, a fan, and a basket. It should probably be half the cost.
2. The light lifespan is unacceptably short in my experience.
3. The live catch basket is cheap and flimsy. The wire on the sides of the basket is easily deformed if you put your fingers in the wrong location when you are trying to empty the basket. The drainage slots on the bottom of the basket are too thin and do not drain well. If you get a layer of insects in the basket it will clog the drainage slots and fill up with an inch or so of rainwater creating a tepid, stinking mess. The pivoting trap doors at the top of the basket are supposed to close if the fan turns off stopping the airflow that holds the doors open. The idea is that if the fan is turned off, the trap doors shut and the live insects don't escape back up through the trap. These trap doors don't work well and get stuck open.
4. I don't like the chore of having to empty the basket. In my case this is every 3-4 days. If you don't keep up with it, the insects begin to rot and stink attracting horse flies and other insects. A basket full of blind mosquitos smells like rotting fish, which is unpleasant in the back yard.
5. You have to leave the Dynatrap on 24/7. The trap catches the most at night and very little during the day. To save energy, it would make sense to have this on a photocell plug so it automatically turns on at night and off during the day. If you did this though, the trapped insects would just escape out of the top of the trap when it turned off due to the problem with the trap doors getting stuck open.
